The Lacryma Christi and other great Volcaninc wines story is written by a gorgeous and wild nature and by an enthusiastic family who knows since a long time how to pamper this land growing its precious fruits. Il was e residential town without Pompeii's commercial importance, surrounded by the villas of wealthy Romans.Wben the catastrophe of 79 AD occurred, Herculaneum was buried by a torrent of mud that hardened into a sof tufa (a kind of course rock) that preserved many of the wooden parts of houses and household objects which can b eseen today. A large portion of old Herculaneum is still buried under the modern town and even today excavations are going on to discover what treasures lie buried under the rock. Cesareo, the lively "decumanus", is the beating heart of the town, with its many-coloured shops, where tourists from every part of the world crowd. But the real architectonic jewel of the town is the fourteenth century Cloister of San Francesco, with crossed tuff arches of Arabian derivation, where the traditional concerts of the "Estate Musicale Sorrentina" take place. Sunday, October 18, 2009 11:54:16 PM

Campania was not only a roman seaside resort, but also a Greek colony. Discover the ruins of Greek Temples and the fantastic Archaeological museum of Paestum, which preserves the only example of Greek painting in South Italy!

Leave the hotel by coach to Paestum. Visit to the archaeological site: Paestum has been for a thousand years a romantic ruin in the midst of a solemn wilderness. Its Doric temples, hardly surpassed even by those of Athens in noble simplicity and good preservation, produce an incomparable effect of majesty and grandeur. The ancient site is set in a grassy field surrounded by gardens and hills. Although the site is small, it's so charming that you may want to spend time just relaxing here. and to the exceptional museum, that holds finds excavated from the site and around, including a set of archaic period Greek metopes. Here you will find the tomb paintings, one of which, the so-called "Tomb of the Diver", is a graceful and expressively naturalistic piece of work, the only existing example of Greek wall painting in Italy. Return to the hotel in the afternoon.

Cruise to Positano

Written by sunland,
Monday, October 19, 2009 5:45:21 PM

Hald day visiting the Amalfi Coast from its best side: the sea.... Our guide will show you all the rocks and the enviroment, and also will tell you the traditions and the legend of our beloved land! Do not miss the visit to the Emerald Grotto, less known but beautiful as the blus grotto, and the fascinable town of Positano!

Discover the Amalfi Coast from the sea. A wonderful guided cruise from Maiori to Positano, passing Atrani, Amalfi and Praiano. Stop to the famous Emerrald Grotto (optional): discovered in 1932, the once dry grotto, later invaded by the sea due to bradyseismical movements, owes its name to the unusual colour of the water reflecting the light that penetrates off the rocks. The interior of the cavern presents the visitors with an extraordinary, unequalled scene: the atmosphere, dominated by brilliant green and blue, is made even more fascinating by thin stalactites and above all by the spectacular formations of stalagmites that emerge from the sea and, like huge columns over 10 m high, they join to the roof. Landing in Positano, the town famous for its white-washed cubes of houses, famous for its cultural events and for the exclusive fashion creation sold in delightful little boutiques. Free time for a walk trough the beautiful alleys or to do an exclusive shopping (2 hour approx.) Expected return at 6.00 pm

Pompeii Express

Written by sunland,
Monday, October 19, 2009 5:24:17 PM

Are you tired from too much touring around? Don't you want to leave for the full day your beautiful hotel on the Amalfi Coast? Express tours fit for you! Half Day discovering the really best of Pompeii, and after the visit back to the hotel! Relaxing and convenient!

Departure from the hotel by de-luxe motorcoach to Pompeii, the roman city buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 a.D. Visit to the archaeological site. Pompeii, as everyone knows, presents a case that is of utmost importance for the study of antiquity, in that it shows us the conditions and contexts of ancient life which were suddenly interrupted in the night between the 24th and 25th of August, 79 AD, when the eruption of Vesuvius buried, under five meters of lapilli and ash, this small city on the Campanian coast. The unexpected end and complete burial of the city with all its furnishings, its inhabitants, and its activities conserved a patrimony of knowledge which we have been exploring for two and a half centuries. From 1748 to today, continual campaigns of excavation have brought to light new elements of knowledge and an ever growing documentation. Aside from the artistic monuments which are well known to all (the frescoes, statues, tools of metal and other materials), lesser known aspects of life have been revealed to us: for example, the grass cut the day before the eruption, the food, the animals, and many other things that are not usually preserved in the archaeological world, because life continued and consumed the materials of preceding civilisations. After 2 hours visit return in Hotel, expected in the early afternoon.
